Jamestown and Pipestem Projects Closed to Watercraft

ARMY CORPS OF ENGINEERS, JAMESTOWN, N.D. - County, state and federal officials want to remind visitors that both Jamestown and Pipestem projects continue to be closed to all watercraft until further notice. “Stutsman County is experiencing a record breaking year for inflows into both Pipestem and Jamestown dams and reservoirs,” says Stutsman County Emergency Manager Jerry Bergquist.  “Both reservoirs have exceeded their all-time elevation records by several feet and we want to ensure the safety of all visitors to the projects.”

There are significant safety concerns associated with the extremely high water in both reservoirs.
Boat ramps and parking areas are under water, saturated ground conditions make access difficult, and debris and underwater obstructions pose safety hazards.

“The watercraft restrictions will be in place at least through the Memorial Day weekend, possibly longer,” says Stutsman County Park Superintendent Dennis Lorenz.   “However, both reservoirs are open to shoreline fishing.”

Jamestown Dam is owned by the Bureau of Reclamation and Pipestem Dam is owned by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.  Recreation management at both reservoirs is conducted by the Stutsman County Park Board under contractual agreements with both agencies.
